At last – a chance to view Australia’s iconic and diverse wildlife in the wild where it should be experienced. No zoos or feeding times! Boutique Wildlife Tours take you to the pristine bushland and forests of the Southern Highlands, less than two hours south of Sydney, in search of the animals that make Australia so unique in their natural habitat.
Small, personalised groups (maximum eleven passengers) travel in luxury 4WD vehicles to the Southern Highlands in a tour designed for those who want to see and understand Australia’s wildlife in its natural bush surrounds.
With the help of a knowledgeable and passionate Naturalist Guide you’ll search for some of Australia’s unique wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, platypus, wombats, birdlife, elusive koala plus much, much more.
We seek out the animals when they’re most active, with a tour from midday to the late evening that includes lunch or afternoon tea (depending on season) anda hearty country style dinner in one of Australia’s oldest country inns.
This is a fabulous and highly personalised way to see and really learn about Australia’s exceptional unique and distinctive wildlife. A definite must-do experience while in Australia!
Please note that due to the late return time to Sydney and the need to walk on uneven ground, this tour is not suitable for children under six, nor for those with limited mobility or walking devices.
A private charter makes this amazing experience even more special – great packages are available for you and your family or friends!
Departure times for our wildlife tours vary monthly, to ensure we have the best chance of spotting the local wildlife. Their patterns change depending on the time of year, weather patterns and the sunset, and we work around this to bring you the best possible Wildlife in the Wild tour. Please see our approximate departure times below. Exact pickup times vary by location and will be advised upon confirmation of your booking.
Summer – 12 noon – October, November, December, January, February, March
Autumn/Fall – 11:30am – April
Winter – 11am – May, June, July, August
Spring – 11:30am – September
This depends on when you’re travelling. From the beginning of April to the end of September, our wildlife tours depart earlier in the day because the sun sets earlier, so a light lunch is included in the tour. If you’re travelling from October to March, you’ll also be able to grab a light snack when we arrive but we suggest that you have something to eat beforehand because we do not leave the city until around midday. A hearty dinner is included year-round at the SurveyorGeneral Inn, Australia’s oldest continuously licensed inn.
With any luck, a bit of everything! There’s just so much native Australian wildlife to see. We’ll be keeping an eye out for Kangaroos, Wombats, Wallabies, Platypus, birdlife and the elusive Koala! Australia is also home to a diverse range of birds, reptiles and unique mammals that won’t be seen anywhere else. And, you’ll have an experienced naturalist guide to point it all out to you!
After dinner, we go night spotting to look for nocturnal animals, including wombats, possums and gliders. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions, we may not get back to Sydney until after 11:30pm in Summer and 9:30pm in Winter. It is a great way to get out of your hotel room for the evening!
Our Southern Highlands (wildlife tours) run four* days per week (Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday – varies seasonally). Please note all tours are subject to availability and minimum number requirements; we recommend that you book well in advance to secure your place! We do not operate on Christmas Day (25 December) or New Year’s Day (1 January).*
